Lacey, WA Case Study
Problem: We were called out to a home in Lacey, WA that was having some issues with water leaking in over the two large front windows of the home. Minor mold was beginning to grow and the tenant was worried about the possible health concerns. The home owner who lived out of state called us to take a look and get the mess cleaned up. The initial inspection was inconclusive as to the source of the water intrusion, but we were confident we could find the problem after taking some of the drywall down.
Solution: Containment was set up in both areas that had a known water intrusion issue and negative pressure was applied to control our air flow and ensure no further cross contamination of mold was caused during our work. Sheet rock and insulation was removed and discarded. What we found was alarming and a much bigger problem than we had anticipated. Rain water was infiltrating the stucco which was covering the entire front of the house. The problem had been ongoing for years and the wooded structure that supported the stucco was completely dry rotten and structurally unstable. We cleaned up everything we could from the inside, but ended up having to seal it off until engineers could come up with a plan to fix it. The stucco face of the house ended up having to be removed and the rotten wooded structure replaced. It’s unfortunate, but sometimes there are bigger problems occurring than can be found upon initial inspection.
