What Is Water Damage?
Water damage is classified in four ways. It could be a small spot of liquid in a room, it could be an area of liquid that has spread on the floor to the walls, it could be coming from the ceiling down the walls, or it could be special event (like extreme flooding from outdoors).
The water itself is described in three categories. It could be fresh water. It could be slightly contaminated (e.g., with urine or dirty dishwater). Or it could be sewage.
Water categorized as sewage may come straight from sewage plumbing. It could be storm water, and it could be slightly contaminated water that has been around long enough to get worse. Even fresh water becomes foul over time.
Water damage can occur at any speed, too. Flash flooding, a pipe burst or a slow leak over days, weeks, months, or even years.
Why Clean Up Water Damage?
Control mold and moisture! One of the most damaging forces on a home or office is the uncontrolled release of water. Personal items can be destroyed. Electronic items are damaged beyond repair. Non-porous or semi-porous material (like vinyl flooring, tile, plastic, insulation, carpet padding, and more) can trap water.
If porous material like wood and drywall are not remediated for water (dried and sanitized) within the first 24-36 hours, mold remediation may be needed as well.
Our homes and buildings are often the most valuable asset we own. Let’s protect them! If they are damaged by water and not cleaned up promptly by professionals according to industry standards, their value may go down.
How Do I Clean Up Water Damage?

Leave it to the professionals. Cleaning it up yourself with a wet-vac or hiring unqualified people do the work may lead to more problems.
The industry-recommended way to remediate for water is to first fix or stop the source of moisture or water intrusion. In general, the next steps are to extract any standing water and promptly remove and dispose of (relatively) inexpensive items that trap moisture (carpet padding, insulation, and/or drywall).
May items can be detached and preserved (like cabinets, furniture, baseboards, shoe molding, cove, and more). AdvantaClean’s objective is to dry and sanitize as much of a home or building in place. Wood flooring can be rescued if we can get to it in time.
Special equipment using air movement, heat, and dehumidification help to remove the remaining water. Daily monitoring and logging of moisture levels with photo-documentation ensures homeowners and insurance companies are kept up-to-date with remediation efforts. An EPA approved antimicrobial (mold killing) agent is applied over affected areas.
