Can mold be completely eliminated from my Frederick home or business?

What most people do not know about mold is that microscopic mold spores exist nearly everywhere, indoors as well as outdoors, making it nearly impossible to remove all mold and mold spores from a home or business. Some businesses advertise total mold removal or provide a guarantee to remove all mold, which is nearly impossible and always very highly unlikely. Since mold and mold spores are present nearly everywhere, even in hospitals and operating rooms, indoors as well as outdoors, mold can easily attach itself to your clothing, onto your pet's fur, or be blown into your home through an open window or just by simply answering the door. For this reason, we never claim to make an area mold free. We do however guarantee that we will remove enough mold to bring your home or business into Condition 1 compliance.

Certified Frederick Mold Removal and Mold Remediation: Condition 1

Condition 1 refers to the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) Standard for Professional Mold Remediation (IICRC S520) definition of Normal Fungal Ecology: an indoor environment that may have settled spores, fungal fragments or traces of actual growth whose identity, location and quantity are reflective of a normal fungal ecology for a similar environment. An Indoor Air Quality Professional or Certified Mold Inspector can perform air sampling of the indoor environment under suspicion and compare the results to that of a control sample (normally taken from the area just outside the home or business) to determine if there are elevated levels of specific mold species that may indicate the need for remediation activities. Results designating Condition 2 (settled spores): an indoor environment which is primarily contaminated with settled spores that were dispersed directly or indirectly from a Condition 3 area and which may have traces of actual growth, or Condition 3 (actual growth): an indoor environment contaminated with the presence of actual mold growth and associated spores, would indicate a specific need for mold remediation to be performed in order to improve the air quality for safe habitation. Actual growth includes growth that is active or dormant, visible or hidden.

Can the presence of mold cause health problems?

Mold and mold spores have the potential to cause health problems. This is especially true in the very young and the elderly, or anyone that has an allergy to the specific species type (think of penicillin), or those with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Mold produces allergens, and in some cases, the mold species can potentially produce toxic substances called mycotoxins. Mycotoxins can cause flu-like symptoms, have long-lasting neurological effects, or cause a host of other health concerns. Although children, elderly, and people with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible, even in healthy adults allergic reactions to mold can be immediate or take several hours to present. Mold exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of anyone that has been exposed.
