Disaster Risk Reduction

Every September is National Preparedness Month – a campaign the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has observed since 2004 to encourage communities and organizations to team together to plan how they will prepare and react in different emergencies. Over 3,000 organizations, including the American Red Cross, Citizen Corps, Environmental Protection Agency, and Center for Disease Control are scheduling events and activities this month to initiate plans for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) provides a brief look at the case for Disaster Risk Reduction in it’s annual Global Assessment Report. This is helpful in determining strategies that will organize awareness efforts for communities all over the world.
