Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home

🎅Holiday Cleaning: Tips for a Guest-Ready Home

Before you start inviting holiday guests to your home this holiday season for nights of dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square, you might want to tidy up a bit. We’ve come up with a seven-day Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home check-list to help make your holiday season just a little bit brighter.

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 1

Walk through your home as if you were a visitor, taking time to notice any imperfections that a guest would notice – like houseplants with dead leaves. 🍂

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 2

Wash windows and vacuum window screens. Wash your guest linens, including bedspreads 🛏 and bath towels.

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 3

Straighten the coat closet, making room for guests’ coats and adding extra hangers if needed. Wash throw rugs and set them aside so they’re nice and fluffy for the day of the party.

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 4

👶Child-proof your home. Hide matches and lighters; transfer toxic cleaners and medicines from base cabinets to wall cabinets; and ask parents to bring hardware like baby gates and cabinet locks to keep their little ones safe.

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 5

Stock the bathroom🚽. Bring toilet paper, towels, toiletries, and plungers out into the open so guests can easily find them. If you don't have enough wall space for shelves, you can put these items in open baskets around the bathroom.

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 6

Prep your kitchen. Increase storage space by installing a pot rack to clear cooking items off counter tops and ranges; move your coffee station to a family room so guests don't crowd the kitchen during meal prep time; and/or if you prefer to have guests visit while you cook, place extra stools and chairs around the perimeter of your kitchen.

Holiday Cleaning Tips for a Guest-Ready Home: Day 7

Sweep the entryway, polish the doorknob, and decorate the entry for the holiday. Dust all surfaces, including bookshelves, photo frames, and art. Don’t forget the ceiling fans!

Another consideration for your guests is to improve your home's indoor air quality. NADCA (The HVAC Inspection, Maintenance, and Restoration Association) explains that up to 40 pounds of dust is created and collected every year in a typical six-room home, and these contaminants are pulled into your HVAC system and recirculated up to seven times a day. By having your HVAC system inspected and cleaned by an air duct cleaning professional, you can be sure your guests aren't exposed to those harsh chemicals and particulates.
